Quantum Training Workshops for Mitacs Students & Postdocs

Quantum this, quantum that… you’ve heard the term, but what does it all mean? Mitacs and Qubo Consulting Corp. partnered to offer three 3-hour Quantum Training Online Workshops exclusively for Mitacs students & postdocs! Learners gained an understanding of how quantum technology is different from classical, and discussed the opportunities and threats for businesses today and in the future.

Quantum is coming in the not-so-distant future, so get ahead of your peers, make yourself more employable, and future-proof your career by learning about quantum today!

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion after attending a workshop. No prior quantum knowledge required! Limited registration.

Mitacs connects academia, government, and the public and private sectors, to help solve organizational challenges and expand Canada’s innovation capacity. Canada’s National Quantum Strategy named Mitacs as the primary agency for workforce development, specifically focusing on building the next generation of Industry-Ready Quantum Talent.

Workshop 1 - Quantum 101: The Basics

13 February 2024 at 1pm ET

Want to find out what all the quantum fuss is about? Quantum technologies use quantum properties and materials, such as atoms, ions, photons, or superconducting circuits, etc., to do a task (i.e. computing, sensing, secure communication). The ripple effect from these technologies becoming commercialized could disrupt every industry, which is why governments around the globe are encouraging businesses to start developing quantum literacy.

This module introduces fundamental concepts in quantum physics relevant to today’s quantum industry. Learners will explore what properties exist in the quantum world that can be manipulated for disruptive quantum technology.

Workshop 2 - Quantum 102: The Revolution

5 March 2024 at 1pm ET

Governments around the world are investing billions of dollars into quantum technologies, which have the potential to disrupt several industries, including finance, energy, transportation & logistics, communications, and healthcare, just to name a few. Many businesses are looking for a way to stay ahead of the curve, protect sensitive data, and gain a competitive advantage. This module will explain how this can be achieved through the application of quantum physics, and the potential that it has for creating disruptive technologies, such as quantum computing, sensing, and communication. Learners will explore how atoms and light can be used to compute, sense, and transmit quantum information. As well, we will look at the global quantum effort in terms of how much countries are investing to stay ahead of the curve, and gain a broad perspective of the quantum industry.

Workshop 3 - Quantum Skills & Entrepreneurship

19 March 2024 at 1pm ET

Want to know what it takes to turn an idea into a profitable quantum company? Want to learn how to code on a quantum computer? This course will feature guest speakers, Martin Laforest, Managing director at the VC firm Quantacet and Director of the Quantum Strategy of ACET deeptech incubator, and Sean Wagner, research scientist and Quantum Technical Ambassador with the IBM Canada Innovation Team. Martin will share the journey from an idea or prototype to a quantum startup, and introduce key concepts on entrepreneurship. Sean will offer Hands-on Qiskit Training to try coding qubits on a quantum computer. It’s recommended students have some basic coding skills in Python.
